A recent edition of the CBS Sunday Morning news magazine ran a story about how "Lists are Taking Over America". It seems that we love lists and they sell newspapers. So what is it about lists that we like? Perhaps it has something to do with the list presentation. Unlike prose, lists are considerably more scanable. It's easy to find the content that interests us and the content is nicely chunked for reading. When we combine lists with methods for filtering the list in ways the most interest us, they become much more appealing and involving.
The list presentation of content is ubiquitous throughout the web and we use them daily but seldom do we talk about the best practice for the presentation of lists or endeavor to understand the power of the list user interface. In this blog I will attempt to explore the best practice of list presentations and how lists might be used to improve the presentation of content.
